Where is Tony?

on february 22, 2023, anthony morris iii was officially removed from the governing body of jehovah's witnesses.

a few months later it was revealed that the watchtower bought him a house in lumberton, north carolina.. however, and correct me if i am wrong, since leaving the gb nobody has reported seeing tony attending jw meetings or participating in field service.

in fact nobody has reported seeing him anywhere, not even at a local liquor store.

Too far away from me to care. But I know for a fact there must be some whispers going around in the congregation and I’m sure the entire congregation is under direct scrutiny by ‘leadership’ up and down the ladder.

Someone should see if his sons are still in JW leadership or if they quietly stepped down.

It seems at least from public records his wife is living elsewhere, the tax documents don’t show his wife’s name either (typically married couples purchase property with both names). His wife is currently listed living at 511 Northampton St, Holyoke, MA (which is the Kingdom Hall) but has a PO Box in Lumberton. Their son Stephen is still is listed at Patterson.

Maybe that’s who the second house is for?

Juneteenth being celebrated by JWs

so today i saw a group of jws i know, we were sitting down to eat at a public place and i guess they (mom and daughter) were performing at an event with their sports team… for juneteenth.. they (the entire team) happened to sit next to us for some fast food and i recognized them and said hi, hoping to make them uncomfortable.

they actually said hi and introduced themselves to my family, i’ve seen them before (they go to the same school as one of my kids) and they usually ignore me.

i know for a fact they and their family still goes, the family patriarch is an elder etc.

@southcentral: it’s a fabricated “religion” that pretends not to be a religion, much like JW, it didn’t naturally evolve, but was created and structured with a specific political goal sometime in the past few decades. I don’t have a problem with people celebrating special events, if they’re grounded in at least some base truth and not structured to allow a supremacy of one group and deny the accomplishments of others.

@listener: these are not the kind of people that are ‘leaving’ the WTBTS, but it just goes to show the ‘rot’. I would be mortified back in the day if someone ‘caught’ me with a St Patrick’s day slogan t-shirt.

Did Anyone Have Fun With Their Field Service Reports?

now that there is new light on reporting hours in field service, it's raised a few questions for me, who was never in the jws.

did any of you ever have fun with the field service report slips, by finding creative ways of reporting time without raising suspicions in those who oversaw the collection of those slips?.

also, can anyone upload an image of what the slips looked like, or point me to a post that gives uploaded examples of the sort of paperwork that was familiar to jws in good standing?.

Nobody ever asked me questions about it, so yes, at some points, I just said whatever they wanted me to write. I felt bad towards the end of my pioneering, so at some points, service was just sitting by myself in a parking lot staring wondering why I was doing this, it was okay when you had a good group with a pretty girl in the morning, or the old guy that paid for a 1h sit-down breakfast and put down a tract for the server to count it as service, but nobody wanted more than 2 hours in the weekend or less than that during the week, when you have to weave in 40-50 hours and a full time job and ‘actually go’ by yourself because nobody ‘wants’ to do 6-8 hours on Saturday and then Sunday you have the meeting ‘interrupting’. That’s when I realized, nobody cares, so I just reported whatever, tracked the last few months and varied the averages and adjusted up and down by a few, took out magazines just to dump them in the garbage.

Eventually, after I left, I found a different use for my briefcase, it was a nice leather hardcase attaché that cost me a bit over $100 back then. It is still great for fitting and discreetly transporting certain toys, and the first aid kit…

So today I saw a group of JWs I know, we were sitting down to eat at a public place and I guess they (mom and daughter) were performing at an event with their sports team… for Juneteenth.

They (the entire team) happened to sit next to us for some fast food and I recognized them and said hi, hoping to make them uncomfortable. They actually said hi and introduced themselves to my family, I’ve seen them before (they go to the same school as one of my kids) and they usually ignore me. I know for a fact they and their family still goes, the family patriarch is an elder etc. They were on their way to doing a demo at the city’s Juneteenth event.

I was completely flabbergasted, these elders and their families, actually celebrating an invented religious holiday, openly, in public. At the same time there is a convention going on less than 5 miles away from them (not their circuit, but still).

@joey: the Iranian people have been waiting on someone to depose the dictatorship. What is madness is allowing a theocracy to build a nuclear bomb like the agreement with Obama allowed and the passive approach under Biden did. The Iranian people are sending videos and intelligence to Israel to aid them in their efforts, Iran has now cut off Internet access to prevent them.

Iran could be a strong country if it were a multicultural democracy like Israel. However today their military is divided, you could have a commander of a troop from one Muslim group and he would distrust the other troop commander from the other Muslim group and both of them report to someone who has no independent authority because his commander doesn’t trust they wouldn’t mutiny and murder him. So everything in the Iranian army is setup to prevent an uprising, you can’t coordinate a modern battlefield if you can’t trust the troops in the field to independently operate.

And just like that Iran has been sent back to the Stone Age.

For anyone that thought this was going to be a big war or loss for Israel, 24 hours later and a few mushroom clouds from their nuclear enrichment centers, the entire top brass is dead. Mossad actually disabled their anti-air in minutes by actually building a missile and drone airbase over the past few months miles away from Tehran.

They can’t even get their Soviet era fighter jets off the ground, an F35 or even the 1990s F16 takes it out before they even show on the Su25 radar. This is just the most one sided battle ever.

@ballistic: having worked on the RBC until I left - no, the quick builds at least in the US are a little more professional, primarily for liability reasons. It’s still volunteers but mostly able bodied men, some of them actually professionals and females/older children may provide food.

Where I was, anyone under 18 cannot do volunteer work that is dangerous (eg be near power tools, scaffolding etc), which quick builds are just a slow moving OSHA violation.

The actual quick builds take several weeks now, they have consistently had problems with “too quick” builds and the local media got bored with them and real contractors pointed out the issues - all sorts of things have to “settle” fastening systems, footers, foundations, glues, concrete, cement, the structure was not inspected at time they wanted to do their inauguration etc. There is a reason construction takes time and having to tear stuff back down because you didn’t do or failed a mechanical inspection is more expensive than doing it right.

So about the time I quit, a “lot” was contracted out to some “good ol boys” that surely didn’t need the extra money from the “JW tax”. Off course WTBTS got their kickbacks too. The congregation still got involved but mostly decorations (roofing, siding, painting) after most of the framing and electrical, plumbing, everything else was roughed in, you know the simple stuff your average handyman can do.

Prophecies by the anti-semites have historically not gone well.

What will Iran do? Israel and the US have had air supremacy for months, their proxy in Gaza is as good as dead, their proxy in Lebanon is almost dead, they tried drones and failed. The dictatorship doesn’t have the popular support for a land invasion. They don’t have a nuke anymore. They needed a Trump deal and played games like they did with Biden, this is what happens.

Predictions for the next decade?

as it’s nearly the new year my prediction over the next decade or so will see the sense of urgency dwindle.

then some huge huge changes.

for example by 2034 in a decades time, they will have address the 1914 issue and will come out and say we can’t be dogmatic.

@jehovaxx: they used to, but nowadays they count any warm body.

I remember back in the day when it was only baptized members with at least 8-10 hours of service for 3 consecutive months.

Then it was all baptized members that were active (10h) in service at least that month.

Then they included active children of baptized members (and we were so excited to turn in our own hour counting form, at least until we became older teenagers)

Then unbaptized publishers got their reports included.

Eventually the service hours got dropped to 2

Then you just had to come to the meetings regularly

Then the service hours dropped completely.

Now I guess they count anyone that ever shows up.

Back in the day surveys showed 2x number of people that reported being a JW vs what the WTBTS reported number of JW to be. Today it’s much closer.

So it depends on what your definition of “growth” is. Same number of bodies, counted differently. In 1995 there was 1 Jehovah's Witness for every 294 people, but by 2023 it had fallen to 1 in 379.
